You have arrived at ikladious.com - the personal website for Peter Ikladious. I am a technical and management specialist who focuses on New Media. My own background in this evolving industry has allowed me certain insights. I believe that New Media is a rapidly evolving industry which will have impacts on everyone. Recently, I applied for entry into some American Universities' MBA programs. I have strong hopes that this will help me develop further, to help understand and further the New Media cause. This has been quite a long, arduous process. Nevertheless, I have learnt plenty and hope to share this information with you in my blog. So what is New Media?This is one of the questions I receive most often. Wikipedia has an interesting definition. A suggestion is made that New Media should be merged with Digital Media. While (today) New Media relies on digital technologies (such as the Internet, Digital Music, Video games, etc), it is somewhat more than this. In short, I define New Media as:
Are we there yet?Although some of these elements and technologies are in place, there is still significant work to be done to achieve the aims of New Media. There is further work needed on the technology that will enable all of these elements. Furthermore, there is still more effort needed to standardise some of the underlying technologies, to allow the empowerment of users. Finally and probably most importantly, there is no clear understanding of how the business models will be structured in this new environment. It goes without saying, that current industry and organisational structures will also change significantly, when New Media has matured. The current Internet, Media and Telecommunications industries will, dare I say it, converge into a new industry structure. |
