After months of waiting, I finally received that email "Your Columbia Business School MBA Application Status". These emails make my stomach churn and give me palpitations! It's a tense moment when you receive these emails, as it could be an acceptance or a rejection. So I followed the link to my online status... After months of waiting, I finally received that email "Your Columbia Business School MBA Application Status". These emails make my stomach churn and give me palpitations! It's a tense moment when you receive these emails, as it could be an acceptance or a rejection. So I followed the link to my online status and lo-and-behold, I'd been granted an interview! What a relief! So I went through the process of choosing a couple of the alumni members listed to have my interview with. In case you don't know, Columbia only has alumni interviews. They do not offer interviews with any of the staff, nor interviews via phone. It's an interesting move, as all the alumni member has to go by is your resume/CV. I believe they have certain questions and areas that they need to drill down into and then they complete their evaluation and send it through to the admissions committee. Needless to say I was able to organise an interview with one of the alums for 4 days later. So, there would be a bit more preparing myself before the journey continues! The interview itself went really well. The interviewer was really friendly and it bordered on a casual conversation. Obviously, I did include all the things that you need to mention (Why MBA? Why Columbia? Why now? etc...), but it was a really relaxed environment. It lasted just shy of 50 minutes, which I thought was a worry, as a short interview is either really good news, or more likely, really bad news! I've heard that these interviews typically run for an hour. Well, we'll just have to wait and see how I go... till next time :) |
